505 Ingleborough and Gaping Gill

Undoubtedly the finest of Yorkshire's Peaks, Ingleborough has long been a favourite. We have watched the sunset from our small tent pitched on the summit and woken to find ourselves above the clouds. It's an easy approach from the delightful village of Clapham through a nature reserve and past Ingleborough Cave. Then climbing through Trow Gill you come to the magnificent pothole of Gaping Gill which has the deepest shaft, biggest cave and highest waterfall in Britain. Ahead Ingleborough beckons, its summit an ancient fort, while the descent is across acres of unspoilt limestone pavement, a truly memorable day.
