138 Alstonefield

Alstonefield is one of the prettiest villages in Staffordshire, but with its springtime display of snowdrops, then daffodils it is magnificent. A track, also lined with snowdrops and daffodils, leads to Stanshope then you descend through Hall Dale into Dovedale where tempting caves, limestone cliffs and rocky pinnacles are hidden among ash woodland beside the sparkling river. Once daffodils were as common in the wild as they are now in the garden, but at Alstonefield the gardens are escaping back into the countryside.
